Coal Line crowdfunding exceeds target

A crowdfunding campaign to turn Peckham’s disused Victorian coal sidings into a kilometre-long urban park has exceeded its target by £10,000.

The Peckham Coal Line, designed by architect Nick Woodford, has attracted hundreds of backers including Southwark council which has also pledged £10,000 pushing the total raised to £75,682.

Connecting Queens Road and Rye Lane the scheme aims to transform the space with increased provision for cyclists and green walkways.

Organisers will now work up a feasibility study and appoint consultants on how the line will be built and maintained.
