SPENDING REVIEW 2015: The government is to relax planning restrictions on brownfield land located in the green belt in a bid to build more houses.
The new rules will allow brownfield sites in the green belt to be developed in the same way as brownfield land elsewhere, providing it delivers starter homes – discounted homes for young people.
At the same time, the government will amend planning policy to “ensure the release of unused and previously undeveloped commercial, retail and industrial land for starter homes”.
It has also announced plans to bring forward proposals for a “delivery test on local authorities to ensure delivery against the homes set out in local plans within a reasonable timeframe”.
