Cash buyers account for 6.3% of first-time buyers

Research by Hamptons International showed 6.3% of first-time homebuyers paid cash in the past year, while a further 5.1% needed a mortgage for only 20% of the purchase price.

A fifth of those buying outright did so due to an inheritance. Two-thirds had help from their parents, but 14% used savings.

Cash buyers accounted for 7.6% of first-time buyers in London.
