Absolutely fabulous

Helical Bar chief executive and LandAid president Mike Slade picked up the headline gong at last week’s EG Awards, receiving the Outstanding Contribution to Property Award for his more than three decades at the top of the industry.

“According to research by Numis, if you backed our winner with £1 when he took over as chief executive, you would be sitting on £1,000 today,” Estates Gazette editor Damian Wild told almost 900 guests. “Apple and Microsoft would struggle to compete with that.”

Battersea Power Station Development Company won the coveted EG London Award for the team’s role in transforming the power station, the Nine Elms area and, ultimately, reshaping the capital.

Berkeley Group was the most successful propco, winning both the Residential and National Company of the Year awards. Meanwhile, CBRE won three trophies – Residential, Offices and Global Real Estate Adviser of the Year.

But the biggest round of applause on the night was reserved for Joanna Lumley. Never has an awards host been so rapturously received.
