Heathrow chairman to step down

Heathrow_T5Sir Nigel Rudd will step down as chairman of Heathrow Airport Holdings in September 2016.

During his tenure he has been responsible for guiding the board through the sale of airports and regrouping the company to focus solely on Heathrow Airport.

Rudd’s time on the board has also been marked by last year’s successful opening of Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal, the conclusion of an £11bn investment programme into the airport.

Rudd spent nine years and three terms as chairman and the decision is in line with board practice.

A new chairman is being sought to undertake Heathrow’s expansion projects.

Rudd said: “I am really proud to have played a role in re-establishing Heathrow as a national asset for the UK. I have seen first-hand just how much of an economic engine Heathrow is for all parts of our great trading nation. That is why it is so important that government lives up to its ‘open for business’ mandate and expands Heathrow. We can keep Britain at the heart of the global economy and I will continue to actively make the case for a bigger and better Heathrow.”
