Nigel Godfrey is to leave his role as executive director and UK country head of IDI Gazeley after more than 20 years.

His departure date from the sheds giant, which was bought by Brookfield in 2013, has yet to be finalised, but he is expected to begin pursuing other interests in the new year.

Godfrey is one of the best known shed developers in the UK, having been promoted to lead Gazeley’s UK operation in 2011 following the departure of Nick Redwood, senior vice president and managing director of Europe and the Americas.

During his long tenure, which has included several changes in ownership for the company, Godfrey oversaw expansion into Spain and has spearheaded many of the company’s most successful UK developments.

The recruitment process for his successor is expected to get under way in the new year.

Brookfield bought Gazeley – the world’s oldest specialist sheds developer – from Dubai World subsidiary EZW in 2013 and merged it with US platform Industrial Developments International to form IDI Gazeley.

The global platform has a $3.6bn (£2.4bn) portfolio of operational and development assets in nine countries.
