Aldi to open 80 UK stores
Aldi plans to open 80 stores in the UK and hire 5,000 staff, bringing the discount supermarket’s total UK shops to 700. Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire and Harrogate in Yorkshire are among the towns that will get new stores.
Alteri laces up Brantano deal
Distressed shoe retailer Brantano has been bought out of administration by its former owner Alteri, which has purchased 81 shops and 59 concessions. Administrators at PwC said 58 shops had not been included in the deal. Retail agent GCW has been appointed to market the leases of the 58 shops.
HSBC HQ to remain in the UK
HSBC has announced that it is to remain headquartered in the UK at 8 Canada Square, E14. It also said that it was not necessary to continue the previous practice of reviewing the location of the group’s headquarters every three years, and it would revisit the matter only if there was a material change in circumstances.
Deptford resi plans granted
Anthology has been granted planning permission by Lewisham Council for the redevelopment of a disused trading estate on the Arklow Road, SE14. Plans were submitted for 316 homes at the 2.9-acre Deptford Foundry site alongside 32,000 sq ft of creative employment space.
Tower Works plans agreed
Carillion has secured planning consent for its regeneration of the Tower Works scheme on Leeds’ South Bank. The 2.9-acre scheme, a joint venture with the Homes & Communities Agency, will include 90,000 sq ft of offices and 16,000 sq ft of shops, restaurants, bars, flats and townhouses. Richardsons Capital will be the sole investment partner for the £80m project. Construction will start in late spring this year and complete in 2020.
