The leaders of 36 FTSE 100 companies have signed a letter calling for the UK to remain in the European Union, warning of risks to the economy otherwise.
The move comes as sterling fell sharply in trading Monday after London mayor Boris Johnson gave his support to the out campaign and ratings firm Moody’s said it could downgrade the country’s credit rating.
Among the 36 companies represented in the letter are Asda, Marks & Spencer and Vodafone. Those not signing the letter include Barclays, Sainsbury’s and Tesco.
