Oil price slump hit Aberdeen house prices

The average price of a home in the Scottish city of Aberdeen has fallen by 4.1% in the last year to £186,200, figures from Hometrack show, making it the only large UK city where prices have fallen.

The decline follows a drop in the price of oil which has had a major effect on employment – an estimated 65,000 jobs in the oil and gas industry have been lost since the beginning of the downturn in 2014.

House price rises are evident elsewhere in Scotland – Edinburgh saw prices rise by 8.6%, while Glasgow experienced price gains of 5.4%.
