UK core cities: where the wise money is going

Tuesday 15 March 11.00-12.00

Salon Croisette, Palais

In association with Bilfinger GVA, UKTI RIO, Leeds City Region, Addleshaw Goddard

Devolution has given UK cities and regions the impetus to take their economic destinies into their own hands. Some are now striding confidently into the hands of real estate’s most discerning investors. But who are these investors and where are they looking to put their cash? Which cities and regions offer the most attractive prospects for returns? With the northern powerhouse and Midlands engine stealing a march, what can other cities and regions learn about driving economic success? In this Question Time-style debate, the audience gets to put their questions directly to a panel of investors, city leaders, industry captains and representatives from the UK government’s regional investment vehicle, RIO, each of whom will reveal where the wise money will go in 2016 and beyond. Delegates will also be the first to get their hands on EG’s latest UK Cities Investor Guide.

Why global cities rule the world

Wednesday 16 March 11.30-12.00

London Stand

In association with Savills

Urbanisation, travel and other infrastructure developments mean a
global network of cities, not countries, hold the key to the world’s economic growth. And to make smart decisions, astute investors must view the global landscape this way. Which cities provide robust investment credentials? Which are the rising stars and which are moribund?
And what are the main drivers of and threats to their growth? Is it migration
and population growth – geography; occupier trends; industry and trade; or government, leadership and regulation? Where will investors and occupiers go for both short-term and long-term gains? And will we ever see a shift in focus back to countries?

Chaired by: Damian Wild, Editor, Estates Gazette

Panel:

Yolande Barnes, Director – World Research, Savills (presentation on Savills’ 12 Cities report)

David Lewis, Principal, NBBJ

Identifying risks and reaping rewards in the current cycle

Thursday 17 March 11.00-11.30

London Stand

In association with BNP PRE

Turmoil in the stock market and the oil price collapse have given a bearish feel to the start of 2016. But what is to come for the remaining stretch of this year and
the rest of this real estate cycle?

What are the risks swirling around that might disrupt or determine the months, or years to come, both in the UK and in Europe? Where should you acquire, where should you sell, and when? What and where will be the risks and the rewards across asset classes, across sectors and across geographies? Where will you find resilience?

In what is undoubtedly a time for rejuvenation, an expert panel of
property players and pundits carefully examine what can make success and
what can break it, on both sides of the Channel.
