Aberdeen Council has selected Places for People as the preferred bidder for a £300m partnership that aims to deliver up to 3,000 homes in the city.
The housing association will partner with the council on the construction and ownership of housing units. Initial plans provide for 1,000 affordable homes, 1,000 private rental homes and the potential for another 1,000 properties.
Under the partnership agreement, Places for People will develop council-owned sites for a 50% share in development profits, after payment of the land value. The partnership model is the first of its kind adopted by a Scottish local authority.
David Cowans, chief executive of Places for People, said: “This partnership will not only to help meet the housing requirements for people with differing needs and at different stages of their life, but also create communities that local people will be proud of.”
