Plans have been approved for a model railway museum in Ashford, Kent.
Ashford International Model Railway Education Centre has been given the green light by Ashford Borough Council to build the 30,000 sq ft museum on the historic Klondyke railway works site.
The scheme, designed by RDA Architects, includes an exhibition and display area, lecture and demonstration theatre, specialist model shop and café.
Celebrity supporters of the scheme include Who frontman Roger Daltrey, Jools Holland, and music producer Pete Waterman. Aimrec is now seeking a funding partner for the £4m needed to develop the centre.
Council leader Gerry Clarkson said: “Ashford has a long, proud railway heritage and this centre will showcase this to visitors.”
