Homeowners commuting to London pay £3,000 less for their properties for every minute further away they are from the capital by train, research by Savills of home prices near to the 314 railway stations on direct commutes into the city shows.
An average price of £606,000 for a property in inner-London falls to £458,000 for a property within a 30-minute train journey. That price falls to £337,000 for a property with a commute time of between 60 minutes and 69 minutes, saving an average of £3,048 a minute.
Some 30% of those buying in the commuter belt through Savills in the first quarter of the year were moving from London, up from 23% a year earlier.
