Renting in London more cost-effective than buying

Buying a property is more cost-effective than renting in just under half of the UK’s 50 biggest cities, according to a survey by Zoopla.

In London, however, renting is more cost-effective. The average monthly rent in the capital, at £2,109, compares with the average cost of a mortgage of £3,337, translating into a disparity of 46%.

Cambridge has the largest disparity between renters and mortgage payers, with the latter spending 52% more on average. For Brighton the difference is 29%.
