Lizzie-YarnoldGolden inspiration

JLL staff were honoured with gold when Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold visited their offices to give a motivational talk.

Yarnold won her gold medal at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. The winter sport involves the competitor riding a small sled head-first down a frozen track.

JLL women’s network chair Helen Gough said: “The world of sport is a lot like business: training, hard work, competition, dedication, success and failure all form part of the job. With such a string of impressive achievements, Lizzy offered great insights into the world of women’s sport which excited and inspired male as well as female employees.”

Building brighter futures

An initiative by Alistair Coulstock, principal engineer at Cundall, is transforming the lives of underprivileged children in Cambodia. Now in its third year, Collaborative Future Cambodia brings together students from University of New South Wales, Australia, and construction industry professionals, under the guidance of not-for-profit organisation Raising Awareness Worldwide, to deliver life-changing projects in some of the country’s poorest communities.

Each year participants are challenged to design a community building. This year they built a school in the village of Krangrulan comprising two classrooms, a kitchen, a play area and a clean water supply for approximately 50 children. The school was constructed in four days by 30 volunteer construction professionals and students.

Previous projects undertaken by the programme have included the design and build of a house and a community centre. For more information or to get involved visit https://acoulstock.com/category/collaborative-future or http://rawimpact.org
