US burger chain Shake Shack is to open its fifth UK restaurant in Leicester Square, WC2.
It is taking a 15-year lease on a 4,500 sq ft restaurant in the former KFC at 1-2 Coventry Street, W1.
Shake Shack, best known for its burgers, flat-top hot dogs and frozen custard, is the latest in a string of new tenants that form part of Leicester Square’s revitalised tenant mix.
Last year TGI Fridays won a battle for the former 10,000 sq ft Yates’s Wine Bar spot on the ground floor of Capital Radio’s headquarters at 30 Leicester Square, next to the modern Odeon cinema.
Edwardian Hotels London is redeveloping the block at the south-west corner of the square, which is home to the art deco Odeon West End. Plans are in place for a 10-storey, 400-bedroom hotel and a two-screen Odeon cinema.
Cushman & Wakefield is also marketing a 7,000 sq ft retail opportunity at 48 Leicester Square, the landmark block that occupies the west side of the square, after securing a deal with Lego in the same block last week.
