Around 12,000 residents in St Ives will have the chance to vote Thursday in a referendum that could restrict second home ownership there.
One of the provisions to be voted on would see planning permission only granted to new-build housing projects if ownership was limited to locals living full-time in the area.
The town council said the percentage of local properties classified as second homes totalled 25% in 2011, up 67% from the 2001 level.
