British Land has revealed plans for a £300m leisure extension of Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre.
The 330,000 sq ft leisure complex, a joint venture between British Land and Norwegian sovereign wealth fund Norges Bank Investment Management, will include new restaurants, a cinema in the Oasis Dining Quarter, café court and a gym under a glazed roof.
The proposed redevelopment will also include an area for large outdoor events including live music.
If approved, the scheme would represent one of the largest investments in the Sheffield city region for a decade, creating 1,000 jobs.
A detailed planning application is due to be submitted in late summer 2016. Construction would start in 2018 with an expected completion date of late 2020 or early 2021.
Charles Maudsley, head of retail and leisure for British Land, said: “We are continuing to drive Meadowhall’s evolution to ensure it remains an outstanding place for modern consumer lifestyles.
“This step change in the scheme’s leisure provision will contribute to Sheffield’s continuation as a driving force behind the northern powerhouse.”
