A former smugglers’ haunt in the north Yorkshire moors is on offer at Allsop’s next sale.
The Saltersgate Inn became a haven for illegal salt traders in the 1700s.
The freehold property, guided at £50,000-plus, includes an adjoining building and has permission for conversion into a hotel with restaurant and bar.
The sale takes place on 26 May at the Cumberland Hotel, W1.
