Hynard to lead Howard de Walden

Andrew-HynardJLL’s Andrew Hynard has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Howard de Walden Estate.

Hynard, who is deputy chairman of JLL UK and has been with the company since 1984, will take over from Toby Shannon as chief executive on 3 October.

The Howard de Walden Estate announced Shannon’s retirement in February.

Shannon joined the estate in January 1997 as finance director, becoming chief executive in April 2006.

Hynard said: “I have known and admired the Howard de Walden Estate for many years. It is one of the outstanding urban estates in the world, and has created a vibrant, mixed-use district of central London.”

Peter Barton, chairman of the Howard de Walden Estate, said: “Andrew will bring a broad experience of the property sector and an outstanding reputation for leadership, business expertise and integrity.”

JLL UK chief executive Guy Grainger said: “Andrew has been a hugely influential force within our business and has been an outstanding role model for many in the industry. He goes with our very best wishes and we look forward to working with him in the future as one of our most prominent alumni.”

The Howard de Walden Estate is the freehold owner of the majority of properties in the 92 acres of Marylebone, W1. The estate has been beneficially owned by members of the Howard de Walden family since 1879 and extends from Marylebone High Street in the west to Portland Place in the east and from Wigmore Street in the south to Marylebone Road in the north.

It generates a rental income in excess of £100m pa. At 31 March 2015, the estate’s portfolio was valued at £3.7bn.
