Richard Carr’s redevelopment of Salterns Marina in Poole, Dorset, with a seven-storey scheme including a five-star hotel and 73 luxury flats, has been given the go-ahead.
Alongside a new marina facility, the development will also feature a spa and gym and 226-space car park.
The Marina will also benefit from a £7m investment to raise the sea wall and protect the area from flooding.
Carr, who acts on behalf of the Salterns Marina, said the organisation thinks the time is right to give Poole a “world class” waterfront.
He is also in talks with The Ivy to open a branch of the restaurant in the new building which will replace the Harbourside hotel.
Planning board chairman Peter Pawlowski described the scheme as “cutting-edge”.
He said: “I think this is forward-looking and not looking backwards. I strongly believe this town needs that to protect its economy and to provide jobs. We should be taking advantage of our harbour to promote and help our area.”
