The City of London Corporation has appointed the University of London’s Paul Wilkinson as the 35th City surveyor.
He will succeed Peter Bennett, who is retiring after 26 years with the City, with effect from 3 October 2016.
The post of City surveyor dates back to 1478 and has developed since 2008 under Bennett’s guidance to combine fund management of a property portfolio extending to more than 16m sq ft.
It also involves management of the City’s 600 operational properties stretching across Greater London, including Guildhall, EC2, The Mansion House, EC4, and the Old Bailey, EC4.
The City of London Corporation holds operational properties with a wide variety of uses from offices, retail space, to wholesale markets.
Since 1995, the City surveyor has also managed the City property advisory team, which facilitates property and related business activities in the Square Mile.
Wilkinson is currently the director of property and facilities management at the University of London. Prior to that, he was the head of property and facilities at Aviva.
