They say cycling is the new golf in property networking, but on this year’s Legal & General Real Assets PedElle, it was more like the new skiing.
The charity ride, set up by Tibbalds director Jennifer Ross and former DP9 partner Claire Treanor to encourage more women in real estate to take up cycling, is now in its fourth year. Twenty-five women from across the whole spectrum of the built environment donned their Lycra to cycle from Salzburg in Austria to Venice in Italy for the Architecture Biennale.
Day one was always going to be a challenge with more than 3,000m of climbing, but a blizzard at the top of the Gloβglockner – Austria’s highest mountain pass – meant the women got a true lesson in battling the odds, having to climb to the top against the elements. But, as in business, when times are tough you work together to make it through. And that is what they did.
The ride, organised by Club Peloton, is in aid of children’s charity Coram and has so far raised almost £20,000. To help raise even more and help a child find their forever family, click here.
Voices from the peloton:
• “From apple strudel to pizza, 465km, one
big mountain, sunshine and snow, and a whole lot of laughter and a few tears. PedElle 2016…The best so far.”
Jennifer Ross, Tibbalds
• “Pedalling (or pedElling) from the land of Mozart to the floating city, the highlights of this year’s PedElle ride entailed four seasons of weather, one epic mountain, a rescue mission involving cake and beer, a mini pile-up, stunning switchback descents, several glasses of spritz and even more laughs.”
Emily Knott, Legal & General Real Assets
• “PedElle number four: the most challenging and yet, probably the most fun ride to date. There was an incredibly strong and positive ‘can do’ attitude among all the riders that really brought everyone together both on and off the bike. Chapeau – and here’s to 2017.”
Nick Hanmer, Club Peloton
