Old Liverpool jail searches for new restaurant operator

OLD-BRIDEWELLA former Liverpool police station and prison converted into a bar, restaurant and music venue has become available to lease.

CBRE has been instructed to market One Bridewell, which has become well-known in the city for its seating areas based on Victorian prison cells.

The restaurant, which is close to Liverpool One in the city centre, became available after former licensee Paul Fitzgerald decided not to renew his lease.

The grade II listed property was visited by Charles Dickens in 1860 as he wrote The Uncommercial Traveller.

The building closed as a police station in the 1930s and became a prison during the World War II.

After being used as a rehearsal space for musicians in the 1980s, it was eventually converted into a bar and restaurant in 2003.

CBRE associate director Nick Huddleston said: “The Old Bridewell provides a rare opportunity for an experienced bar restaurant and gastro pub operator to lease the premises to create and develop a unique and niche destination bar restaurant in the heart of Liverpool city centre.”
