Plans in for £200m Manchester Kampus

Kampus-THUMBCapital & Centric and Henry Boot Developments have submitted plans for the first phase of their £200m joint development in Manchester’s city centre.

Phase one of the Kampus regeneration scheme will focus on Aytoun Street, with 478 PRS homes and two buildings of 12 and 16 storeys containing 30,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

The Ares Management-funded plan will also restore a 1960s office building, Aytoun Tower, with a timber rooftop village and create a botanical garden as the development’s centrepiece.

Planning for the second phase of the 500,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme will be submitted later this summer and will include the conversion of two historic mill buildings.

Adam Higgins, co-founder of Capital & Centric, said: “We have worked closely with Manchester City Council and, importantly, the local community to create this exciting scheme, which will rejuvenate this area of our city that has been neglected for too long. Kampus will attract quirky, independent leisure operators and create a vibrant new bohemian destination for the city.”

The site was bought in March 2014 from Manchester Metropolitan University and is close to the city’s Piccadilly Station, which is set to become an HS2 connection in 2032.
