Charitable move for River Island’s Woodruff

River-Island-at-Bullring-200pRiver Island’s head of store acquisitions, Mark Woodruff, is leaving the business after 10 years in the role.

Woodruff, who has worked in the UK high street property market for more than 25 years, is leaving the industry to work at specialist philanthropy agency the Giving Department.

He began his career as Next’s first placement student in 1991, and then worked with Arcadia brands for 12 years.

Alongside his role at River Island, he is also charities manager for the business, and set up a charity, Giver Island, which he has run for the past four years.

Woodruff will leave the business in September, and River Island is in the process of recruiting his replacement.

Last month, River Island’s e-commerce development manager, Helen Colclough, also left the business after three years.

River Island’s latest deal was securing a 23,000 sq ft flagship shop at Hammerson’s Bullring in Birmingham.

The retailer has more than 350 shops across the UK and Ireland, as well as in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Last year it opened in Chile and Peru.
