Countryside gets Fresh in Barking

Countryside is under offer to a buy a canal-side regeneration scheme in east London valued at up to £300m.

The 11-acre Fresh Wharf in Barking has consent for 911 homes and 39,000 sq ft of commercial space. It is being sold by family firm Fresh Wharf Estates.

Countryside worked up the original planning applications for the site in 2008 with Fresh Wharf Estates, and provided an amendment to the 2011 permission in 2014.

The amendment revised the scheme to make development more practical, cutting the number of homes from 950 to 911 and reducing maximum  building heights from 22 to 15 storeys.

The site was marketed for sale by Savills earlier this year as either a market-sale or PRS-led scheme, with Countryside then exercising an option to develop.

Fresh Wharf Estates is owned by the Hewett family, who used to own a deep-sea fishing fleet run from Barking’s wharves.
