Accelerator swaps Tech City for Paddington

2-kingdom-street-THUMB.jpegOne of the biggest accelerators in the tech industry has moved its European headquarters from Tech City to west London.

Techstars has taken 60 desks, out of 250, on a multi-year lease at British Land’s Central Working, 2 Kingdom Street, Paddington, W2.

The accelerator, which has raised more than $2bn (£1.5bn) in funding for global start-ups, was previously based at Warner Yard, EC1.

The move away from the capital’s traditional tech heartland is a vote of confidence in west London’s potential as a new hub.

The new venue will give Techstars access to start-up companies which have been forced out of areas such as Shoreditch by rising rents.

Promotional and start-up supporter firm London & Partners has also taken space in Central Working as it expands from its headquarters at 2 More London Riverside, SE1.

Central Working Paddington’s opening coincides with the announcement that Central Working City, also launched in partnership with British Land last year, will be expanding to five floors.

James Layfield, chief executive of Central Working, said: “This area of London provides a vibrant mix of big corporates and entrepreneurs to drive innovation and business growth.

“With two leading Tech City influencers now in residence, Central Working Paddington will help the capital’s booming tech scene spread out from the Silicon Roundabout.”
