One of the UK’s best-known bankers, Stuart Hoare, has joined CR Investment Management as a managing director.
Hoare was director of European real estate finance at Citi for 17 years. He and two other members of the lending team were made redundant in April after UK investment volumes plunged in the first quarter of 2016 by 32% year-on-year.
During his time with Citi, Hoare worked with clients including Blackstone, Oaktree Capital Management, Europa Capital, and M7 Real Estate.
He will head a new service line for CR Investment Management, focusing on providing loan brokerage, real estate finance advisory and loan syndication across Europe.
The business will source debt and equity for new transactions while also advising clients on their existing investments, with a view to working with both institutions and private investors.
Transactions will start from €5m (£4.2m) and CR may also use its own cash to finance deals.
Jacob Lyons, managing director at CR, said: “We have known and worked with Stuart for many years. This makes our offering to clients even more compelling by providing a broader spectrum of services and we look forward to benefitting from Stuart’s experience and leadership.”
CR was established in 2004 and has since advised private equity firms, hedge funds, banks and institutional investors on €30bn of asset and credit positions. It advises on transactions, including non-performing loan portfolios, provides loan servicing and asset management.
The firm’s management team includes Lyons and Stephen Benson, co-founders of River Investment Group and Deutsche River.
