1. Humble beginnings
Property Race Day started in 2007 as a small industry gathering at Sandown Park Racecourse.
2. Second time in a row
To the relief of the committee, Property Race Day was enough of a hit the first time to justify a second, even bigger event.
3. The move to Ascot
After three years, the popular summer networking and charity event outgrew Sandown.
4. Working out whom to upset the least
Eight hundred people at Ascot for lunch inevitably meant logistics got a little trickier.
5. The intrepid jockeys
The event introduced the first charity race with property industry jockeys racing to the line.
6. Our friends at Ascot
The welcome is always warm at the arguably the UK’s most famous racetrack.
7. The shy retiring president…
… is everything Mike Slade is not.
8. Graham Triefus
The unsung hero of the committee.
9. The heroes – the charities
Children’s charities have been at the heart of Property Race Day from its inception.
10. The late friend and mentor
Property Race Day exists because of the late Derek Lucie-Smith’s (1947-2016) love of horseracing and desire to support disadvantaged children. The event’s founder is sorely missed.
