IMF calls for Irish mortgage restrictions to remain

Ireland’s central bank should make its mortgage lending restrictions permanent, the International Monetary Fund said in its annual review of the country’s economy.

The measures, which include capping mortgages based on income and the imposition of minimum deposit requirements, took effect in January 2015. They are currently under review amid criticism from politicians.

The measures safeguard banks and households from shocks, the IMF said.
