Morrison cuts prices

Supermarket chain Morrison is planning price cuts averaging 18% on more than 1,000 products, starting today.

Analysts have warned that the weaker pound following the referendum could lead to higher prices in supermarkets.

Supermarket sales fell 1.7% in the four weeks ended 17 July, with all of the big-four reporting a decline, figures from Kantar Worldpanel show.

Aldi’s sales growth slowed to 11% in the 12 weeks to 17 July, from 12.5% in the prior period.
