Asda reports worst sales drop ever

Sales at Asda fell by 7.5% on a like-for-like basis in Q2, outpacing the prior quarter’s 5.7% fall and its largest sales drop ever. Sales have fallen for eight quarters in a row.

Total sales were down 5%, while footfall fell by 6%.

The competitive environment and food deflation continued to challenge the market, significantly impacting sales, Walmart chief executive Doug McMillon said.
