The number of care home places in Scotland fell to 42,026 last year from 45,711 in 2000, the Conservatives say, citing statistics from the Scottish parliament.
Last year alone there were 83 fewer local authority and NHS places, according to the figures. The number of private places was down 290 compared with a year earlier, while the number in voluntary facilities fell by 103.
