1.6m households in extreme debt

1.6m households are living in extreme debt, according to the Britain in the Red report by the TUC.

Total unsecured debt, which excludes mortgages, has risen by £48bn since 2012, reaching £353bn in 2015.

Higher wages must be at the heart of the government’s economic plan, TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said.
