Khan seeks viability experts for Homes for Londoners team

Sadiq-KhanLondon mayor Sadiq Khan’s Homes for Londoners team started to take shape this week, with the mayor’s office saying the first step was to recruit experts to scrutinise viability assessments.

The team, another manifesto pledge, aims to boost housing delivery.

The mayor’s office said the experts would include finance surveyors and property consultants, and would support delivery by making planning decisions faster and more consistent and ensuring the maximum amount of affordable housing.

The Homes for Londoners board, which Khan will chair, was also announced. It will oversee delivery, land assembly and investment decisions.

Two positions on the 11 member panel will be held by members of the residential property sector.

The mayor’s Homes for Londoners governance board comprises:

• Four borough leaders — to be nominated by London councils

• Transport for London commissioner;

• GLA executive director – housing and land;

• Chair of the G15; and

• Two members of the residential property sector.
