The services industry expanded over the last three months, led by the restaurants, bars and hotels sector, a survey by the CBI shows.
Optimism among companies about the outlook for the sector fell, however.
Meanwhile, a report by Lloyds Bank shows consumers were more confident about their personal finances than in the last five and a half years.
