While revenue growth in prime London areas may be slowing, the capital still contributed around £3.03bn, or 43%, of the country’s residential stamp duty land tax in 2014-15.
In 2007-08, London accounted for 28% of total stamp duty land tax, illustrating its increasing importance as a source of revenue.
Stamp duty land tax revenues in the capital rose by 11% in 2014-15, against a 16% rise for the UK as a whole.
