Aldi reports record sales

Aldi reported record sales of £7.7bn for the year ended 31 December, although the 12% increase in sales was weaker than in the previous year.

Operating profit dipped by 1.8% to £255.6m following price cuts across 30% of its products.

The discount supermarket chain plans to spend £300m on refurbishing its existing stores, and is looking to add 70 stores next year. It added 65 stores last year.
