Almacantar has submitted plans for a major new West End office block.
The firm will redevelop 125 Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2, the home of Yahoo and Time Out, to increase the size of the 1980s building to more than 332,000 sq ft, from 245,000 sq ft.
The plans will also reinstate a historic link between Old Compton Street and New Compton Street, improving pedestrian accessibility between Soho and St Giles Street.
Kathrin Hersel, property director at Almacantar, said the building would be “perfectly aligned with new demands from today’s occupiers on layout, finish and sustainability”.
She added: “Working with DSDHA, we propose removing the current façade and reconstructing the top of the building to create not only an attractive and energy-efficient commercial building, but also to deliver improved retail space and increased active frontage around the building. The height of the building will be extended by approximately five metres.”
If the plan is approved, construction is expected to complete in 2020.
