CONSERVATIVE PARTY CONFERENCE 2016: SEGRO chief executive David Sleath has hailed a “new era” in British politics but said the industry needs government to end uncertainty soon.
Speaking to Estates Gazette at a British Property Federation fringe event, Sleath said: “I think we are in a new period, we are in a new era, there is a lot of excitement about what the brave new world is going to look like post-Brexit.
“Unfortunately there is quite a lot of water to pass under the bridge before we get there and a lot of uncertainty and the sooner the government can bring an end to that certainty I think will be good for our industry and good for investment in the UK.”
Sleath, who is also president of the BPF, said government needed to grasp the opportunity to encourage the development of more build-to-rent homes.
He said: “The government has announced some policies that may be broadly helpful in terms of planning rights over brownfield land… But we would like to see more done to encourage the growth of the private rented sector.”
From SEGRO’s perspective, he said one of the biggest announcements he was waiting for was the decision on a third runway at Heathrow Airport.
