Rental yields are highest in the north and west of England, with an average yield of 5.4% for England and Wales against 6.2% in the northwest, research by Countrywide for The Times shows.
Among other areas with higher yields than the average are the Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber.
In comparison, London offers an average yield of 4.1%.
