Government may miss land sale target

A government promise to build 160,000 homes on publicly owned land by 2020 will be missed unless there is a significant acceleration in the programme in its last years, the Public Accounts Committee said.

So far only enough land has been sold for 8,380 homes, or 5% of the total, the government said.

Questions continue to hang over the potential of many sites earmarked for sale and whether the homes will be where people want to live, PAC chairman Meg Hillier said.
