The Retirement Villages Group has appointed Christina Edwards CBE as a non-executive director as it launches a £200m portfolio expansion.

Edwards joins RVG from the National Health Service, where she was a front-line nurse working at a senior management level.

A key part of her new role will be to lead the group’s compliance committee.

Last month RVG announced an expansion of its portfolio of 14 luxury retirement communities. It plans seven new locations to be delivered over the next five years.

RVG has also promoted Oscar Russell from estates manager to group estates director. Russell has been with the company for two years, having previously managed large London portfolios for developers.

In addition, David Thomas has been confirmed as group care director, having held the position on an interim basis.

Nigel Welby, executive chairman, Retirement Villages Group, said: “We are strengthening our organisational structure to support our development programme and the growth of our care business.”
