Waterloo Station expansion approved

Plans to expand Waterloo Station, SE1, to include a new shopping destination have been given the green light by Lambeth Council.

Under the proposals, London and Continental Railways, the Department for Transport and Network Rail will bring the Waterloo International Terminal, formerly used by Eurostar, back into use after almost a decade.

At least 135,000 sq ft of retail space will be created across three floors.

New entrances will also be created to handle a predicted increase in passenger numbers.

The retail offer at Waterloo Station is intended to match that of St Pancras International and Birmingham New Street.

The restoration of Waterloo International Terminal will improve links to Leake Street and Lower Marsh, where LCR and the Department for Transport are bringing old railway arches back into use next to the “Banksy graffiti tunnel”.

Cushman & Wakefield and Union Street Partners are acting as joint leasing agents for LCR.
