Nearly 1.2m households in privately rented accommodation have tenancies of six months or less, according to a report by Citizens Advice. Many would like longer tenancies.
The charity is calling for the government to provide better protection for families who privately rent – it helped almost 75,000 people with problems relating to rented properties last year.
Action is needed to improve security of tenure and the quality of private rented homes, Gillian Guy, chief executive of Citizens Advice, said.
