Jamie Oliver is to close six of his Jamie’s Italian restaurants because of Brexit-related pressures.
The Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group said the closures, which will affect about 120 employees, are a response to the “pressures and unknowns” of the market following the referendum last June.
Restaurants in Aberdeen, Exeter, Chelthenham, Richmond, Tunbridge Wells and Ludgate Hill will shut by the end of the first quarter.
The company added that although footfall has fallen and costs have risen in the UK, it is planning to open another 22 Jamie’s Italian restaurants internationally.
The closures, it said, represent less than 5% of the company’s turnover and less than 5% of its staff.
Oliver has 42 Jamie’s Italian restaurants in the UK and another 36 overseas.
