First Base is in talks with Havering Council over a £200m joint venture in Romford, east London.

The pair are looking to redevelop the seven-acre Bridge Close Industrial Estate with a residential-led scheme comprising around 840 new homes alongside a mix of workspace and community amenities

Elliot Lipton, managing director of First Base, said: “With enhanced transport infrastructure, this is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside Havering Council to deliver long-term benefits for local people and businesses.”

The centre of Romford was designated a housing zone in March 2016 and will receive £35m of public money towards unlocking sites.

Other projects include a £25m leisure centre development in Western Road, a £1.4m upgrade around Romford station before the arrival of Crossrail, and a reinvigoration of Romford Market including a new Market House.

First Base has significant holdings in Romford and have been involved in a number of developments in east London. These include 1,300 homes at East Village, Olympic Park, as part of Triathlon Homes, and the 62-acre mixed-use redevelopment of Silvertown in the Royal Docks, E16.

Damian White, deputy leader of Havering Council and cabinet member for housing, said: “Our potential joint venture with First Base will act as a catalyst for further investment and regeneration in Romford.”
