German discount supermarket Lidl has had its most successful Christmas ever, with sales in December up by 10% year-on-year.
The firm said its sales had been boosted by a new advertising campaign featuring the Norfolk farm where its Christmas turkeys are reared.
It also launched a social media campaign that helped it to sell 40,000 lobsters at £2.99 each in one day.
Rival discounter Aldi also posted strong December sales and reported a 15% rise in sales for the month.
Lidl plans to open a further 250 shops in London.
