Shearer Property Group has been appointed to lead the £360m City Centre South development in Coventry.
The project will connect the city’s circular market with the rest of the city centre and is expected to open by 2022.
Among its proposals are a major department store, 50 new retail units and a multi-storey car park, along with private and rented residential and student accommodation.
The West Midlands Combined Authority approved £98.8m in funding for City Centre South, with the balance coming from the developer.
The project follows refurbishments at Broadgate and the rail station.
Guy Shearer, managing director at Shearer, said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen by the city council to deliver this vitally important regeneration project.
“This site lies in the very heart of the city centre and is huge by any standards – about the size of 10 football pitches. It finally provides the opportunity to deliver a transformational scheme that will put Coventry back on the map as a retail and leisure destination.”
